Get Smells Out of Your Carpet Naturally

Have you ever noticed your carpet smelling a little less than fresh? Especially if you have kids and pets, it’s not unusual to find smells in your carpet you wish weren’t there. Unfortunately, smells in your carpet can permeate the entire house. Yuck!

Having maid services keep the house clean goes a long way in preventing odors, but sometimes they crop up anyway. If you have a smelly carpet problem, this solution is fast, simple, and completely natural.

The Mix

You can buy carpet fresheners, but you don’t always know exactly what you are getting. Is it actually removing the odors, or just covering it with something that smells nicer for a while?

This mixture absorbs odors and leaves a fresh smell, and it couldn’t be simpler:

  • Baking soda
  • Essential oils (optional, but recommended!)

That’s all you need to make your own carpet freshener!

Mix together baking soda and whichever oils you want to use (don’t be afraid to combine them if you know how to make a smell you really love), then sift a few times.

When the sifted baking soda has no more clumps, it’s ready.

The Process

Thankfully, getting the carpet fresh is just as easy as making the mix. Sprinkle the mixture on the carpet (you can use your hands, the sifter, or even an empty talc powder container).

When the entire carpet is covered, let it sit for 15 minutes, then come back and vacuum up the powder—that’s it!

Baking soda naturally absorbs odors and moisture, and the essential oil leaves a fantastic smell behind.
