Great Tips for Maintaining Your Washing Machine

The Maids • Nov 14, 2014
Your washing machine is one of the most important appliances in your household, so if it malfunctions or stops working altogether, it can cause big issues. No matter the type, whether top-loading or front loading, maintaining your washing machine is essential to maintain its functionality, and to ensure a longer life out of this important appliance. Below are some tips for taking care of your washing machine:

Check Fill Hoses and Drainage Hose Regularly

After some time, the fill hoses and drainage hose of your washing machine can leak or even burst. It is important to check them regularly for any signs of wear or danger, because if they leak or burst water can flood your floor and potentially ruin your flooring. Also, check the drainage hose to ensure that it is not clogged and the water is flowing freely to the drain.

Check if the Machine is Level

Since these appliances are heavy, it is important to ensure that the ground they are sitting on is level to avoid causing it to shake or vibrate violently. Make sure that all the legs of the machine are stable and that the floor is even, as the vibrations from the spin cycle can cause it to shift and potentially cause damage.

Regular Maintenance

Consider replacing the rubber hoses every few years or so. Also, use a washing machine cleaner agent at least once every few months to keep grim and detergent residue from building up on the inside. They have cleaning products that are specifically designed for this purpose, but you can also try filling the washer on largest load and adding 1-2 cups of bleach and run it for a wash cycle.

Surge Protection

It is important to protect all your major appliances from electrical surges. You should plug the washing machine first into a surge protector and plug the surge protector into the wall. The latest washers are devices that are sensitive changes in electric circuits. However, preventing is the best way to protect.
