Know about the Allergens In The Home And How To Get Rid Of Them

One of the most common health problems that more and more people are encountering with each passing day are allergies. Cold, sneezing, wheezing, asthma, skin allergies and food allergies, you can find every second person facing these problems.

It may come as a surprise that most of the allergens are present right within our own home. Dust mites, pet dander, cockroaches and molds are some of the commonly found allergens in the home. Warm, wet, humid and poorly ventilated home environment is conducive to their growth. The best way to get rid of these allergens is by allergy proofing your home by keeping it clean and dry.

Your bedroom houses dust mites in pillows, mattresses, linens, quilts, curtains and carpets. Washing linens regularly in hot water and encasing pillows and mattresses in allergen impermeable covers can help the situation. Keep pets out of your bedroom to avoid pet dander. Vacuum clean your sofas and carpets regularly with vacuum cleaners having HEPA filters as they are capable of trapping allergens. Remove carpets from wherever you can and if not possible, get them professionally steam cleaned every six months. Wiping with a damp wash cloth around the bed frame and furniture once a week is essential for keeping the surfaces dust free. Wash stuffed toys every week and remove them to dust free containers once the children are asleep.

Clean your bathrooms with 5% bleach cleaning solution and keep them dry and well ventilated. Keep your kitchen clean and well ventilated. Store the food in sealed containers. Your garbage cans should surely be covered and make it a point to empty them regularly. Do remember to clean your refrigerator pan regularly; it is an easy target for molds. Use dehumidifiers to dry out the humid environment but do remember to empty and clean them regularly.
