Tips for Organizing a Garage Sale

The Maids • Mar 28, 2014
Garage sales can bring a nice chunk of change to your pocket, or they can miserably fail. So what should you to when organizing a garage sale? The following tips should help you out!

Set a Time

First, you want to decide on how long the garage sale will last. Just one afternoon? Two days? This is up to you and depends on how much stuff you are trying to sell. A good rule of thumb for the length of your sale is to multiply the time it takes to set everything up by three, and use that for how long your sale is going to last.

Gather And Price The Merchandise!

Garage sales are meant to bring you some money and empty out some storage space. Gather up all of the items you are looking to sell, and lay them all out. Next, you will want to price your items. Price them reasonably. People are not going to spend a lot of money at a garage sale, so do not set high prices. $15 should be the maximum price for any item. If you have an item that you feel is worth more, then a garage sale may not be the best place to sell it.

Advertise

You need to get the word out about your sale! Making signs including your address, and date of the sale is one way to advertise. Another way is by word of mouth, and telling your neighbors. A good way to use technology to advertise is by posting on Craigslist telling people of your sale, what time it is at, and what types of items are available! Be your own marketer, and get people to your sale!

Conclusion

Once you have all of this completed, your garage sale should be a success. During the sale, allow people to negotiate prices, and be very friendly! Organizing a garage sale isn't rocket science, but it does take a lot of effort!
